“From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised! He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children. Praise the Lord!” Psalm 113:3,9
Abortion continues to be the one of the highest causes of death in the world, with abortion claiming more lives than all the wars put together. For the most part, the world sees children as a nuisance that stand in the way of my pleasures, and my goals for life. Prestige and position, careers and equality are all seen as far more glorious than simple motherhood. But Scripture stands in stark contrast to such a worldview. The Bible repeatedly praises the blessings of bearing children. Women who were barren in Scripture such as Sarah, Rachel, Hannah, Elizabeth and the mother of Samson, rejoiced when they found out that they would become Mothers!
I am sure that the mothers in our midst would testify to the truth of the verses above, that their children have brought them joy, a joy that goes on even when the children leave home and begin homes of their own, and in turn find joy in children of their own. This blessing alone, should cause us to praise our God from the rising of the sun to its setting! But is it not also true that mothers, godly mothers, are a source of great joy! How wonderful it is that mothers have the privilege to shape the minds and hearts of their children to a large extent. How wonderful it is that mothers delight in denying themselves for the sake of their children. How many men and women today are walking in the Lord’s ways because God used the daily testimony of His grace in their mother to lead them in His ways!
If you have a godly mother, take the time today to thank her for the incredible blessing that she has been to you! And if your godly Mother has already been called home, take the time today to thank God for His providential gift of a godly Mother for you! Somebody has well-written: “Be thankful for our Mothers who love with higher love, From power God has given and strength from up above.” Happy Mother’s Day to all our Moms!!!!
