Pilgrim’s Path – 8/13/17

It is he who made the earth by his power, who established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding stretched out the heavens.” (Jeremiah 10:12).

Thomas Brooks, a seventeenth century preacher, has said, “What are the heavens, the earth, the sea, but a sheet of royal paper, written all over with the wisdom and power of God?” Truly, the wisdom and the power of God clearly shine in all His vast and diverse creation, even though creation has been horribly marred by sin. And yet while the hand of God is so evident in His creation, many fail to see it! So what is it that has made us, who are believers, able to see God’s majesty, wisdom and power in all the details of nature around us, while so many fail to see God in His creation? The light of His grace has shone in our hearts, while their foolish hearts were darkened in sin and unbelief. Yes, the unbeliever is to blame for his unbelief, but we deserve no credit for our faith – it is entirely of God’s grace!

Therefore praise Him for the revelation of His glory in creation all around you, and for the fact that He has chosen to reveal that to you. But praise Him still more that He has chosen to give us the greatest revelation of Himself in His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, and that in Him, we have the promise of a new heaven and a new earth, the glory of which, is inconceivably above the glory of this fallen earth.

This week, our church will run our annual Vacation Bible School, and the theme this year is Galactic Starveyors – Searching the Visible, Discovering the Invisible! Please pray this week for all those involved in this ministry who sacrifice so much of their time and energy for the children of our community. And pray even more this coming week, that God would use the simple means of VBS to shine the light of the gospel into hearts that were previously darkened by sin and unbelief. Pray that as these children see the visible wonder of the planets and stars and galaxies, that they would come to see the wonder of the invisible God, and especially come to embrace the wonder of His incredible provision for lost sinners in His Son, Jesus Christ!
