“The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.“
Most of us have heard the poem “Footprints in the Sand”, depicting a man’s life with two sets of footprints – one being his own and one belonging to the Lord. But he noticed that during the low points of his life there was only one set of footprints and concluding that the Lord had left him during these times, he questions the Lord, and receives this reply: “My precious, precious child, I love you and would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.” While this is not a parable from Scripture, it certainly conveys the truth of the great love of God for His children and His most tender care for them during times of great trial and affliction.
For those knowing great grief and loss this morning, know that the eternal God is your refuge and that underneath you are the everlasting arms, arms of boundless love, carrying you this morning and on through days in which you will feel you do not have the strength to go on. Know that in the midst of your heart-wrenching grief and loss, that there is not a moment in your life, no matter how tragic it might seem, but that you are yet being cradled in His “everlasting arms”. The eternal God has become your eternal refuge because of His great love, manifested in time, in the death of His Son upon the cross for you.
Not only do God’s arms carry us through every trial and tragedy of life – but His promise is that His arms will carry us through death into life everlasting in His glorious presence. Dear Tanner family, and all those who are mourning today, we have experienced a great loss. But our God has lost nothing! Danny Tanner is even now being cradled in the everlasting arms of God and experiencing glory unimaginable! Continue to trust this God in the midst of great darkness and great grief – He alone is the eternal refuge for all those who cast themselves upon Him! The refuge of God is secure, His love is eternal, and His arms are everlasting! May He bring His peace to troubled hearts this day!
