Pilgrims Path – 7/8/2018

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16,17

The Word of God is under attack today, as it has been since the dawn of time. Liberal scholars claim the Bible is full of inconsistencies and errors. The creation account has been disproven, and been replaced with billions of years of mindless evolution. To a rational, logical, scientific mind in the twenty-first century, the miracles of Jesus are nothing more than fables, and the resurrection of Jesus is nothing but a lie invented by ignorant first-century fisherman.

But the Word of God is also under attack by some within Evangelical Christianity. A book that came out several years ago entitled, “Jesus Calling” has sold more than 15 million copies, but is deeply disturbing. The premise of the book is that Jesus speaks to the author, Sarah Young, and Sarah then conveys his message to her readers. In the book, Young states: “I knew that God communicated with me through the Bible, but I yearned for more. Increasingly, I wanted to hear what God had to say to me personally on a given day.” John MacArthur shares these thoughts: “And whether it’s a daily reading from Jesus Calling, an outburst of tongues, or a personal revelation from the Lord, there is a consistent and troubling theme gaining influence in the church today: The Bible is not enough.”

But Scripture is clear! “Scripture is breathed out by God … that the man of God may be complete!” God has revealed Himself to us in His all-sufficient Word! To reject it in unbelief, or to add to it in subjective mysticism, are both attacks against the all-sufficiency of the Bible! We are in a spiritual battle, and our enemy’s single greatest tactic, has always been to cast doubt on the Word of God, and so remove the Sword of the Spirit from the hands and hearts of God’s people. Jesus himself used the Word to counter the attacks of Satan. May God enable us to be faithful in reading His Word, in loving His Word, in living His Word, and in defending His Word from every attack, both from inside and outside the Church of Christ!

Preach it brother Jacques! It is exactly what the church of Christ needs to hear today from their pulpits. Continue to pray for you my brother in Christ! Hope to see you one day soon.
